We value the importance of early years experiences and the team aims to provide a happy, loving atmosphere with praise, comfort and reassurance, enabling children to learn about themselves, others and their surroundings. We believe children should have consistent opportunities for exploration and discovery both indoors and outdoors and endeavour to provide a blend of care and learning for each child that is based upon their unique abilities. At the heart of this approach we have planned an environment where children can freely access and select a wide range of resources and opportunities. Each of the age groups within the setting have their own base room and outdoor play space specifically designed for their age and stage. The nursery rooms all have underfloor heating and are fully airconditioned to keep all children at the perfect temperature no matter what the weather.

We have a fully child led routine based on individual needs and staff are sensitive and supportive to ensure the babies are nurtured during their time with us. We are completely flexible to their needs and children sleep and rest following their own routines from home. As children grow we follow a flexible routine. Children enjoy free choice activities and adult guided activities including interactive song time. Snack and mealtimes are provided to meet their ever changing age and stage and dietary requirements and all food is freshly prepared by our onsite cook.
This room is filled with opportunities to self select and explore. It’s where children begin to develop responsibility, resilience and confidence in themselves as individuals. Our team ensures individualised planning reflects children’s learning aims and interests to best promote their development. Our team of early years educators plan a range of exciting opportunities both inside and outside for the children to actively explore and engage in. Children move into hedgehog room rising two depending on their individual needs and move on to the Owls Room rising three.
The hedgehog room team are highly experienced working with toddlers. They are level 3 qualified and understand the vital role of developing children's independence and supporting them to grow as active individuals. Staff structure the days to allow for focused times and free choice activities which all advance the children's learning and development. Intervention is targeted and ensures that children are provided with challenges to enable them to develop new skills.
Owls room caters for children in their final 18 months of nursery before school. This pre-school room provides a wealth of activities to challenge thinking and engage their minds. Children are experiential learners; they learn best through actually doing things, especially if they are allowed to practice and repeat what they have done. They learn the most when they are happy, relaxed and having fun; doing the things that they enjoy doing. For this reason we have a planned environment where children can freely access a wide range of resources and opportunities for them to select independently. Staff work closely with children and offer consistent support and scaffold play to maximise development & learning in preparation for transition to school and their future years beyond nursery.
We promote the development of self worth and expect children to develop an understanding of the needs and rights of others. We aim to manage behaviour by setting clear limits, praising positive efforts, adopting a consistent approach, rewarding good behaviour and demonstrating a calm and clear response. We endeavour to incorporate British values in our daily routines and to ensure that the fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance are embedded in our everyday practice. We expect children and parents to work in partnership with the Owls staff to enhance learning, promote learning and support the children in the transition to school.
The children are now beginning to develop their independence and sense of self . In owls the children enjoy making decisions for themselves whilst learning is scaffolded by the staff and this room ensures the children have lots of opportunity for challenge to advance their learning. Children are supported by a fully qualified team and a structured but still play based programme invites children to be active confident learners. We encourage the Owls children to be motivated , healthy, safe and staff are skilful at managing behaviour and getting the very best from the children. We aim to provide children with fun and inspirational opportunities for them to grow, learn and develop in a structured safe environment. Play is central to our ethos and we endeavour to promote an atmosphere based on praise and encouragement. We ensure children have clear consistent boundaries where they can not only lead their play but have a good understanding of their friends feelings and emotions. We aim to build positive relationships and partnerships based on mutual respect.
We strive to ensure that children are not only prepared for school but they are prepared for life. Making the right decisions about their personal health and well-being is important for their life long learning and achievement. We focus on the child holistically and ensure that they are not rushed into how to hold a pencil but focus on the underpinning skills to encourage independence, problem solving, negotiation, and resilience and we support children to be able to actively concentrate, communicate and listen. This rounded approach is flexible to meet the children's diverse needs with inclusion central to our approach. We work closely with schools to ensure all transition documents are completed and information is shared to ensure teachers can support the children as they start their new chapter at school.
